1978 - 1983

ATTORNEY

After graduating from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto and being called to the Bar, I entered private practice specializing in entertainment law. I represented recording artists, songwriters, producers, production companies, Managers and clients in the film, television and radio industries. Some of the clients I worked with included Rush, Saga, Triumph, Tom Cochrane & Red Rider, Jim Carrey and The Second City ComedyTroupe (SCTV).

1983 - 1988

VICE PRESIDENT BUSINESS AFFAIRS SONY MUSIC CANADA

I  worked very closely with the President and other senior executives to ensure that the day-to-day business operated pursuant to the goals and objectives of the company. I was responsible for negotiating and drafting all agreements which included Recording Contracts; Publishing Contracts; Producer Contracts; Video Production Agreements; Foreign Distribution and Licensing Agreements; Sub-Publishing Agreements; Synchronization and Master Use Licenses for film and television; and Employment Agreements.

1988 - 1991

VICE PRESIDENT BUSINESS AFFAIRS I.R.S. RECORDS

I was the legal advisor and business representative for all activities of the company in Los Angeles dealing directly with Founder Miles Copeland III and President Jay Boberg. Some of the  Artists I worked with included R.E.M., The Go-Go’s, Oingo Boingo,  Fine Young Cannibals, The Alarm, Stewart Copeland, Jools Holland, Timbuk3, The English Beat, and Concrete Blonde

1991 - 1995

VICE PRESIDENT MUSIC BUSINESS AFFAIRS UNIVERSAL PICTURES

I was responsible for negotiating and drafting all agreements relating to the use of all music composed and recorded for feature motion pictures including agreements with composers for each score; individual and group recording artists; songwriters; producers; music supervisors; music consultants; music publishers; record companies for distribution of soundtrack albums and the rights to utilize the services of various Recording Artists. I also reviewed and administered agreements for all music for use in all films. Among the films I worked on were Jurassic Park, Schindler's List,  Scent of A Woman, Dazed and Confused,  Reality Bites and Apollo 13.

1995 - 1997

VICE PRESIDENT LEGAL AND  BUSINESS AFFAIRS 20th CENTURY FOX

In addition to the same responsibilities that I had in my position at Universal Pictures, I was also responsible for all music in all TV programs produced by 20th Century Fox and responsible for handling all business for the publishing of all music by the Fox Music Publishing Department. Among the films and TV programs I worked on were  Independence Day, That Thing You Do, One Fine Day, Romeo + Juliet, The Truth About Cats and Dogs, and The Simpsons,

1997 - 2014

CÉLINE DION MANAGEMENT / FEELING PRODUCTIONS

I worked alongside René Angélil being involved in the day-to-day management of Céline Dion’s career with particular emphasis on handling all Business Affairs related matters. My  responsibilities included dealing with Céline’s label Sony Music; all Music Publishing; Merchandise; Live Performances; Licensing of Master Recordings; Film and Television; Video; Accounting and Financial matters; Sponsorships; Charitable Requests; and Collection Societies.
